Ava Bromberg

Senior Fellow

Ava puts her backgrounds in art, community engagement, urban planning and commercial real estate to productive use making large-scale creative habitats in underutilized commercial and industrial buildings. Her major projects include Atwater Crossing, a 100k sf Arts & Innovation Complex in Atwater Village and The Reef: A Creative Habitat near Downtown Los Angeles. At The Reef, Ava spearheaded the development of Maker City LA and Magic Box alongside the existing LA Mart to create an 860k sf ecosystem that supports diverse creators by providing access to affordable tools and spaces to learn, make, exhibit, and sell products and ideas. Ava is an experienced qualitative researcher, partnership builder, strategic planner, and implementer with a passion for developing business models and generative spaces that can sustainably support experimentation. She has a Masters in Urban Planning from UCLA where she is also a PhD candidate. Ava is an advisor to the Creative Economic Development Fund for the City of Los Angeles, serves on the board of Machine Project, and is a co-founder of LAplus, a new Los Angeles civic organization with the mission to inspire and advance LA’s positive urban* future.

Nighttime. Especially after everyone else is sleeping. 10p-2a.

What’s a favorite piece of advice you’ve received?
“Do or do not, there is no try.” Good advice from Yoda, and everyone who has quoted him since!

What’s your go to karaoke song?
I have two: Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan and Cry Me a River — the torch song by Arthur Hamilton, not the Justin Timberlake song. Let’s go to Karaoke!
