Carla Fernandez

Senior Fellow

Carla joined the AnnLab in 2017 to focus on the road to Census 2020. Her passion is in building creatively-driven experiences to move individuals, communities and organizations forward. Her main squeeze projects are two-fold. 1. Helping start the creative agency enso (enso.co), which works on mission-driven initiatives with brands like Google, Khan Academy, and Omidyar Network. 2. Co-founding The Dinner Party (thedinnerparty.org), a community in over 150 cities committed to taking some of our most tabooed topics – grief, loss, political disenfranchisement – out of the closet, and onto the table, transforming hard-to-touch topics into sources of deep connection and progress. When not working, you might find her attempting to surf in Venice, or out in Joshua Tree- where she’s slowly remodeling an old house that will someday be secret headquarters for fellow creative do-gooders. She’s originally from Monterey, CA, graduated from NYU with a focus in Social Entrepreneurship, and has an unusually high number of fellow redhead friends.

Inspiration

Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? – Mary Oliver

Me in Three

What was your dream job as a kid?
I did a whole report in preschool about wanting to either be a gardener or a jeweler. I feel like my eye was really on the prize back then, and I should probably start cranking on a garden and making more noodle-necklace jewelry before retirement.

If you could be any animal, what would you be?
Probably my dog Biscotti, who’s job is to nap constantly.

What’s your favorite midnight snack?
Pizza, always and forever.

This pretty much sums up my existence
